Oboe, Baroque Oboe

Maria Raffaele's passion for music took her to Carnegie Mellon University, the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, and the Jeune Orchestre de l’Abbaye aux Dames/Université de Poitiers, where she obtained Bachelors and Masters degrees in modern and historical oboe performance. She benefited immensely from the teaching of great musicians including Cynthia DeAlmeida, Katharina Arfken, Antoine Torunczyk, Philippe Herreweghe, Alfredo Bernardini, and Lorenzo Coppola. Maria has built a career bridging historical and modern oboe performance, playing regularly with renowned ensembles such as Le Concert de la Loge, Insula Orchestra, and Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu. She also co-directs the Munich-based early music ensemble Svapinga Consort and is one of the founding members of the French period instrument nonet Ensemble Ennea. Currently based in the Paris suburbs, Maria teaches modern and historical oboe at the Conservatoires of Pontault-Combault and Noisiel and works a freelance translator and graphic designer.
