First Prize winner of the 13th Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and the 14th Sphinx Competition, violist Paul Laraia is a Principal member of the Sejong Soloists and the violist of the Grammy winning Catalyst Quartet. Paul has been soloist with the major orchestras of Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Bogatá, New Jersey, Nashville, New Haven, St. Paul, Cincinnati, and has performed recitals and chamber music in the great halls of New York, London, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Detroit, Seoul, and Moscow with artists such as Gil Shaham, Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma, Jorg Widmann, Vadim Repin, Edgar Meyer, Anthony Marwood, Anthony McGill, and Leon Fleischer. Paul studied with Brynina Socolofsky, Che-hung Chen, and Kim Kashkashian. Paul performs on a beautiful Hiroshi Iizuka viola in the ‘viola d’amore’ style, a Belgian bow by Pierre Guillaume awarded by the Bishops Strings Shop in London, and is a proud supporter of Pirastro’s Eva Pirazzi strings.
