The Festival

Each August Staunton Music Festival invites over 80 acclaimed professionals from around the world to perform in 30 events. Multiple concerts daily make for an exhilarating immersion in chamber, vocal, and symphonic music. The days are given over to one-hour, free admission programs, while the evenings come alive with longer, ticketed concerts preceded by special dinners and lectures.

The 2022 Festival opens on August 12 with a fully-staged production of Handel's Orlando and concludes 10 days later amidst the glorious sounds of Haydn's oratorio, The Creation, for chorus, soloists, and period orchestra. In between you will hear Mozart and Monteverdi, Brahms and Brubeck; you will meet composers-in-residence and discover Music from China; you will discover Staunton, Virginia, and the charms that make it "one of America's best small towns" (Smithsonian Magazine)

We look forward to seeing you at the concerts!

From August 12-21, 2022, the 24th annual Staunton Music Festival will present 30 concerts over 10 consecutive days. Most days start off with free noon concerts, continue with mid-afternoon workshops, and conclude with formal evening programs. See every event, read about the musical works, and meet the musicians who will bring it all to life.

For each season the Festival's artistic director, Carsten Schmidt, orchestrates an eclectic combination of thirty concert programs, ranging from the Middle Ages to commissioned premieres.
