Angela Young Smucker
Mezzo-Soprano
When she’s not refereeing for her roller derby team or boxing a few rounds on the heavy bag, mezzo soprano Angela Young Smucker thrives in performance, arts administration, and education. Praised for her “robust, burnished, timber” (Chicago Classical Review), “luscious mezzo voice” (Chicago Tribune) and “powerful stage presence” (The Plain Dealer), Angela has been featured soloist with Third Coast Baroque, Chicago Symphony, Oregon Bach Festival, Haymarket Opera Company, Bach Collegium San Diego, and more. She has also appeared with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Conspirare, Seraphic Fire, and other distinguished choral ensembles. Angela is executive director and co-founder of Third Coast Baroque, “Chicago's most accomplished period instrumentalists and singers" (Chicago Tribune). She holds multiple degrees: DMA from Northwestern University, MM from Univ. of Minnesota, and BME from Valparaiso University; and has been on faculty at Stetson University and Valparaiso.
