Hailed by the New York Times for his “impeccable musicianship” and the Times of London as “arguably the best wind player of his generation”, Daniel Bates holds principal oboe positions with Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, City of London Sinfonia and Irish Chamber Orchestra. He has performed solo concertos with the world’s major orchestras under the baton of Pierre Boulez, Simon Rattle, John Eliot Gardiner, Kurt Masur, and others. Solo recitals include venues such as the Wigmore Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and at various European festivals partnered with musicians of international renown including Cecilia Bartoli, Jörg Widmann, Elizabeth Leonskaya, and more. As a session musician he has recorded for numerous pop acts and films, including Barbra Streisand, Mary J Blige, Rihanna and Stevie Wonder. Daniel is the founder and Artistic Director of FitzFest in central London. He lives in Washington DC and teaches at Catholic University.
