John McMurtery enjoys a varied career as an orchestral flutist, soloist, chamber musician, teacher, and composer. Currently, he is section flutist of the NYC Opera Orchestra, Associate Professor of Flute at UNLV, and Second Flute of the Las Vegas Philharmonic. He has served as guest principal flutist with Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Met Opera Orchestra. As soloist and chamber musician, McMurtery has appeared with the New York Symphonic Ensemble in Japan, Peoria Symphony, Artemis Chamber Ensemble, and Manhattan Chamber Orchestra. He has given masterclasses throughout the US, Japan, and in Shenzhen, China, and has appeared as guest artist at flute festivals throughout the United States. At the 2015 Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival he performed under Maestro Alan Gilbert. Most recently, McMurtery recorded two CDs of music by Louis Anthony deLise for Bocage Records. He earned degrees from Juilliard, Rutgers, and Central Washington University.
