Kris Kwapis

Trumpet, Baroque Trumpet

Kris Kwapis has enjoyed performing at the Staunton Music Festival since 2015 and regularly collaborates as soloist and principal trumpet with period-instrument ensembles across North America, including Portland Baroque Orchestra, Boston Baroque, Oregon Bach Festival and Berwick Academy, Toronto Bach Festival, and Carmel Bach Festival, among many others. A student of Armando Ghitalla on modern trumpet at the University of Michigan, Dr. Kwapis also holds a DMA in historical performance from Stony Brook University on Long Island. Kris has been sharing her passion of exploring historical performance with the next generation as a faculty member at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music Historical Performance Institute since 2010. When not playing, writing, speaking or thinking about music, she is active as a visual artist in the encaustic medium, an avid cook, and home remodeler with her partner, Mark, at their home in Seattle.
