Maia Cabeza

Canadian-American violinist Maia Cabeza performs as a chamber musician, orchestral leader and soloist. She is currently concertmaster of Aurora Orchestra and Principal 2nd in the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and regularly invited as guest concertmaster with Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, among others. 1st prizewinner of the 2013 Leopold Mozart Competition and 2nd prizewinner of the 2018 J.S. Bach Competition, Maia has performed as soloist with orchestras including the Kammerorchester Basel, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and Munich Radio Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician, she is a member of Spunicunifait, dedicated to performing Mozart’s string quintets on period instruments, and has collaborated with musicians such as Kristian Bezuidenhout, Vilde Frang, Nobuko Imai, and Steven Isserlis. Maia was born in Japan and is of Argentinean heritage. She studied in Philadelphia, Berlin and Basel with Ida Kavafian, Joseph Silverstein, Antje Weithaas and Rainer Schmidt, and is currently based in Berlin.
