Sara Couden

Sara Couden, contralto, praised for her "unusually rich and resonant voice" (Opera News), recently debuted with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra in Judas Maccabeus and the Philadelphia Orchestra in L'Enfant et les sortilèges. In 2021/22, Ms. Couden will debut at the Lakes Area Music Festival as Baba the Turk in The Rake’s Progress, and the Seattle Symphony in their Messiah, as well as returning to the Metropolitan Opera to cover the role of Erste Magd in Elektra. She will also sing programs of art song with the Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago, and as part of a Musicians from Marlboro tour. Ms. Couden completed the MET's Lindemann Young Artist Program and has been a fellow at Music@Menlo, Music Academy of the West. She holds a master's with honors from the San Francisco Conservatory and an AD in Early Music, Chamber Music, and Oratorio from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.
