Alek Fester

Oboist Alek Fester specializes in performing music from the Baroque through Romantic eras on historical instruments. Alek is much sought after for his interpretations of Bach and Classical-era works. He has lived in Basel, Switzerland since 2009 and is currently first oboist with Capriccio Barockorchester, one of the most renowned period-instrument orchestras in Switzerland. He is featured on recent recordings with the orchestra, including a critically acclaimed recording with Chouchane Siranossian of Romberg Violin Concertos and an upcoming CD of new arrangements of Handel orchestral works. Alek’s also co-founder and artistic director of the Bruderholz Barock chamber ensemble in Basel. He received degrees from the Schola Cantorum (Basel), Indiana University and Sarah Lawrence College. In 2021 Alek received Swiss citizenship and began working towards a Masters in Reformed Theology at the University of Basel.
