The early 17th century was one of the richest and most interesting periods in harpsichord music. In this program Carsten Schmidt performs a selection of works by two of the leading voices in the development of keyboard music. The Italian Girolamo Frescobaldi, known primarily for his virtuosic works and influence on composers like Bach and Buxtehude, brought elements of Renaissance and Baroque madrigal into his experimental style. At the same time, Johann Jakob Froberger did more than any other to forge the dance suite as a major genre in harpsichord music.
